Nepal's tourism sector is a significant driver of economic activity — and one of its largest consumers of off-grid energy. Hotels, resorts, and guesthouses across Pokhara, Chitwan, and the trekking corridors collectively spend hundreds of millions of rupees each year running diesel generators to fill grid gaps. Arsa Energy partnered with Hotel Himalaya View near Pokhara Lakeside to replace their diesel dependency entirely.
Hotel Himalaya View — a 40-room property with a restaurant, conference room, and rooftop terrace — was operating two 30 kVA diesel generators at a combined monthly fuel cost of NPR 95,000. The noise from generators was affecting guest experience (a recurring complaint in TripAdvisor reviews). Voltage fluctuations were also damaging sensitive kitchen equipment including refrigeration units and espresso machines.
NEA supply to the Lakeside area averages about 18–20 hours/day but can drop to 12 hours during peak demand periods (December–February). The hotel's critical load — refrigeration, fire safety systems, and guest Wi-Fi — needed uninterrupted power 24/7.
Arsa Energy conducted a 7-day load analysis using data loggers to establish precise demand curves. The hotel's peak demand was 22 kW (lunch service + HVAC), with a nighttime baseload of 8 kW. The design goal: cover the full nighttime load from battery, and satisfy daytime peak from solar + battery combined.

The generator that previously ran 8–12 hours daily now activates only during extended grid failures — averaging less than 2 hours per month. Guest complaints about noise dropped to zero. The hotel's GM noted that stable power also reduced kitchen equipment breakdowns by an estimated 40%, cutting maintenance costs.
Nepal's hospitality industry is uniquely positioned to benefit from energy storage. Properties in Pokhara, Chitwan, and the Annapurna corridor all face similar grid challenges. With Nepal's Tourism Board setting carbon-neutral targets for the sector by 2030, battery storage provides both an economic return and a compelling sustainability narrative for eco-conscious international guests.
💡 Arsa Energy designs commercial energy storage systems from 20 kWh to 500 kWh for hotels, hospitals, schools, and retail complexes across Nepal. All systems include 5-year performance guarantees and remote monitoring.
